Fall immunization season through Primary Care Alberta

Fall immunization season has arrived, as Primary Care Alberta encourages Albertans to protect themselves and their loved ones from respiratory illness.

Getting immunized against influenza, respiratory syncytial virus, and COVID-19 is one of several important steps Albertans can take to prevent the spread of illness.

Appointments are available through public health clinics and participating pharmacies.

Visit primarycarealberta.ca/getimmunized to learn which immunizations are right for you.

To book an appointment at a PCA public health clinic, visit myhealth.alberta.ca/topic/immunization/pages/book-appointment.aspx or call Health Link at 8-1-1.

You can also speak to your primary healthcare provider if you have questions about immunization.

Additional precautions to protect yourself from the spread of respiratory viruses include:

  • Staying home when feeling sick;
  • Avoiding close contact with people who are sick, whenever possible;
  • Washing hands frequently with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds, or using an alcohol-based hand sanitizer;
  • Covering coughs and sneezes, followed by cleaning of hands;
  • Avoiding touching eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands;
  • Cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched surfaces and items at home, especially when someone is sick; and
  • Wearing a well-fitting mask in crowded indoor spaces to help reduce the risk of becoming sick and to help protect others from being exposed.
