Physicians in Alberta are calling on the provincial government for clarity on health-care eligibility ahead of next week’s referendum.
The Alberta Medical Association wants assurances that changes to health-care cards and eligibility rules will not delay medically necessary treatment and are seeking guidance on how the changes could impact immigrants, refugees and other residents. As well they are asking whether doctors will face added paperwork or billing challenges.
According to the Association coverage questions should be handled through a separate administrative process, allowing physicians to focus on patient care.
