Alberta is providing $5.5 million to community organizations working to combat human trafficking and support survivors.
The funding will help prevent trafficking, protect people at risk and provide supports such as housing to survivors. About $2.7 million will go to eight organizations already funded through the province’s trafficking program, with the remaining $2.8 million will be available through an open application process for projects focused on prevention, awareness and survivor support.
The province says the funding is intended to strengthen co-ordination and help people escape trafficking and rebuild their lives.
