Alberta is upping efforts to keep invasive mussels out of its waterways this boating season.
Environment Minister Grant Hunter says mandatory watercraft inspections will take place from May 1st to September 30th at eastern and southern border crossings.
According to Hunter, this year there will be 12 inspection stations operating, which is a record for the province.
Officials say the measures aim to protect ecosystems, infrastructure and the economy from costly damage.
