Province wide open house Alberta Open Farm Days will return this summer. This annual event is a chance for Albertans to visit local farms in their area and learn more about the province’s agriculture and food systems, as well as a glimpse into the day-to-day work done by farmers.
Executive Committee Member for Open Farm Days Tannis Baker says that the event is truly a unique experience for all people across the province.
“The most important thing that happens is this amazing connectivity between Albertans. It’s a chance for people from the city to learn a little bit more about rural Alberta, what it means to farm, and what that looks like to the people that are putting food on our plates.”
This year’s theme for Open Farm Days is Rangeland and Pastoralists, with a special look at the work done by the farmers and people who graze animals.
According to Baker, about 150 to 170 local farms are expected to participate in this year’s affair. She advises checking their website periodically over the next few months to view an updated list of participating farms in your area.
Alberta Open Farm Days will take place this summer on August 15th and 16th. For more details, you can visit albertaopenfarmdays.ca.
