Alberta’s RCMP says it will continue policing communities without interruption, after the Alberta Next Panel report recommended creating a new provincial police force.
Deputy Commissioner Trevor Daroux said the RCMP remains focused on public safety and currently covers 40 per cent of Albertans, including rural areas and towns like Red Deer and Brooks. He says the RCMP’s priority is unchanged, as it is and will aways be to protect Albertans.
The Alberta Next Panel also made recommendations on pensions, taxes, immigration, and constitutional powers.
Premier Danielle Smith says the government will review the panel’s report in the coming months before making any decisions.
