A community BBQ during Mundare Agri-Days will bring locals and visitors
together to celebrate the landmark, its history, and the community behind it.
For 25 years, a 42-foot sausage weighing 12,000 pounds has stood proudly over Mundare,
welcoming visitors, appearing in countless road-trip photos, and becoming an unmistakable
symbol of the town’s Ukrainian heritage.
On August 15, Stawnichy’s Mundare Sausage will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the
World’s Largest Sausage with a community BBQ during Mundare Agri-Days, from 11:30
a.m. to 1 p.m. at 5212 50 Street in Mundare, Alberta. Guests are encouraged to enjoy the
Agri-Days parade and then join Stawnichy’s for lunch and the anniversary celebration.
Completed and erected in Mundare in 2001, the World’s Largest Sausage was created as a
tribute to Stawnichy’s and the sausage-making tradition that helped put Mundare on the map.
The monument has become a popular stop for families, travellers, and fans of Alberta’s
larger-than-life roadside attractions. It has appeared in countless vacation photos and has even
served as a memorable backdrop for newlyweds celebrating their love beneath the giant
sausage ring. It has attracted national media attention and even caught the attention of
Guinness World Records.
“For 25 years, I’ve watched families stop, take photos, and make memories at the World’s
Largest Sausage in Mundare,” said Jane “Baba Jane” Stawnichy, a member of the second
generation of the Stawnichy family business. “Now some of those children are coming back with
families of their own. That’s what makes this anniversary so special.”
Proceeds from the community BBQ will go to the Edward E. Stawnichy Charitable Foundation,
which supports scholarships and community initiatives in Mundare and the surrounding area.
