Local students and rodeo competitors Paiten Axten and her team roping partner Treston Campbell are making their way to the US later this month after qualifying to compete in the National Junior High Finals Rodeo hosted by the National High School Rodeo Association. Axten, a grade 7 student from Lavoy who attends Vegreville Composite High School, has qualified to participate in both barrel racing and team roping, along with her partner Campbell, a resident of Myrnam. Axten says that the while the season was not without its challenges, she is pleased to be able to compete in the Rodeo happening June 23rd to 29th at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines.

Axten adds that she will be practicing as much as she can before she heads down to Iowa for the competition.

Local high school student Cash Littau will also be making his way to the US after an impressive performance as season leader and provincial champ in the Alberta High School Team Roping event, and will represent Alberta at the National High School Finals Rodeo taking place at the Sweetwater Events Complex in Rock Springs, Wyoming, this July.
