Pride Week is slated for June 9th through the 15th this year.
Kira Chalupa with the Pride Committee Vegreville and Area says they have a community wide painting party. They will be painting some flower boxes which have been donated to them by another community organization – Vegreville Cares. Kira says “They are looking a little bit in rough shape and we thought we’d splash some happy on them. So we are going to do a painting party for those at the library on June 6th and the start time for that is 3 o’clock and it will go until 6. This is a rain or shine event. So if it is good weather, we are going to have it out on the patio at the library and if it is not so good great weather, we are going to move it indoors to the gym at the library complex. So that is our big kick off event.”
Chalupa says once the planters are painted and ready to go they will be displayed on the front area of the Vegreville Municipal Library complex.
For the actual Pride Week of June 9th to the 15th, Chalupa notes they will be having various social media posts from their partnering organizations. Kira says “MHCB, AHS, the Library, FRN, we are all doing different topics around Pride. The meanings behind flags, media resources that you can access, help lines that you can access, a little bit of history, you know, what it means to be part of the LGBTQ2S+ community.”
Chalupa adds, on June 8th they will be showing the movie ‘The Mitchells vs the Machines’.
