The Vegreville RCMP Detachment will be conducting a community vehicle-safety initiative on September 16 and 17 during the evening hours, as part of regular patrols in the Vegreville area.
RCMP members will be conducting random visual checks of parked vehicles to identify common vehicle-security concerns and promote awareness about preventing vehicle theft and theft from vehicles.
During these checks, members will be looking from outside the vehicle for concerns such as:
- Unlocked vehicle doors
- Keys or key fobs left inside vehicles
- Valuables visible from outside the vehicle
- Identification or insurance documents left in plain sight
- Other easily preventable security concerns
Members will not enter vehicles or open vehicle doors during these safety checks. The purpose of the initiative is education, awareness, and crime prevention.
The initiative, “Lock It or Lose It,” encourages residents to take simple steps to protect their vehicles and property, including locking their doors, removing keys and valuables, securing garage doors, and reporting suspicious activity.
