Help is on the way for Alberta producers

Some assistance is on the way for producers who have been saddled with soggy fields this year.

The province and the federal government are responding to record levels of moisture across Alberta – which have left some farmers unable to assess their crops or maintain regular operations – by making changes to AgriStability.

Alberta producers will be able to sign up for the program until October 1st.

The late participation for 2026 AgriStability is aimed at giving them more time to review and manage the business risks associated with extreme weather or other unexpected difficulties.

Tara Sawyer, Alberta’s Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation, adds that the interim payment rate has also increased from 50 per cent to 75 per cent in order to put money into the hands of producers sooner and improve cash flow during a challenging growing season.
