The federal government has announced a 510 million investment into water and wastewater infrastructure in Alberta tied to housing growth.
Prime Minister Mark Carney and Premier Danielle Smith announced the agreement which sees the funding come from the Canada Housing Infrastructure Fund over the next eight years, and Alberta contributing at least one-third of eligible project costs.
Carney said the announcement is an example of the two governments being on the same page of wanting to address needs and get things done.
Smith says the investment will help communities build infrastructure needed for new homes, with at least 100 million dollars being directed toward rural and Indigenous communities.
She added over the past five years Alberta’s growing population has increased pressure on housing and essential services.
