Several Alberta residents, including a resident from Kitscoty, have been convicted following a major investigation into illegal cougar and Canada lynx hunts across the province.
Alberta Fish and Wildlife Enforcement Services says the investigation began in January 2024 and uncovered 11 illegal guided hunts, involving both Alberta residents and non-resident hunters. Search warrants executed in Alberta and B.C. led to the seizure of 11 cougar skins and skulls and five Canada lynx skins.
Residents from DeBolt, Drayton Valley, Kitscoty and Worsley, along with two Americans, pleaded guilty to various wildlife offences. Officials say illegal hunting threatens wildlife populations and reduces hunting opportunities for law-abiding hunters.
