Meta has announced plans to build its first Canadian data centre in Alberta.
According to officials, the 13 billion dollar investment is set to be built in Sturgeon County north of Edmonton, will create more than 3,000 construction jobs and generate approximately 250 million dollars annually in benefits for Albertans.
Premier Danielle Smith says the province created the right conditions to attract world-leading investments such as this. Smith believes the project will transform Alberta into a Canadian AI leader.
As part of the build, Meta says it will also be fully funding new generation and grid infrastructure to support the data centre, which will improve reliability across the entire grid.
