Vegreville reflects on Case Processing Centre closure 10 years later

Earlier this month, the Town of Vegreville hosted a Federation of Canadian Municipalities Study Tour, welcoming municipal leaders from across the country to learn more about our community’s resilience, recovery, and renewed growth in the decade since the federal government announced the closure and relocation of Vegreville’s Citizenship Case Processing Centre.

As part of the tour, attendees viewed a retrospective video examining Vegreville’s fight against the decision-one that the Town stated threated local jobs and created significant uncertainty throughout the community.

The video looks back at the advocacy campaign, the impact of the closure and how Vegreville has evolved in subsequent years. It is followed by a live question and answer panel featuring individuals who played key roles in the fight, aided in the aftermath, and helped shape Vegreville’s path forward.
