Local structure fire in Vegreville results in fatality

*REPORT PROVIDED BY VEGREVILLE FIRE SERVICES*

On Monday, June 1, at approximately 10:56 a.m., Vegreville Fire Services responded to a reported structure fire in Wood and Garden Estates.

Upon arrival, crews found one residence partially involved, with reports that a resident may still be inside.

Due to a heavy accumulation of contents within the residence and the extent of the fire upon arrival, firefighters were unable to immediately access the interior of the structure. Crews worked to knock down the fire from the exterior before gaining entry. Once inside, firefighters located a deceased 71yr old female.

As a result of the fatality, a third-party fire investigator was contracted to determine the cause of the fire. The investigation has determined that the probable cause was a lithium-ion battery-powered e-scooter that was reportedly charging at the time the fire broke out.
