April is National Oral Health Month across Canada. Led by the Canadian Dental Association, the campaign is dedicated to highlighting the critical link between oral health and overall health. The month is about promoting daily brushing, flossing, regular dental check-ups, and early screenings for oral diseases.
Here in Vegreville, Registered Dental Hygienist with the Vegreville Dental Centre Kaylee Pipke says that while dental maintenance and check-ups are vital to oral health, visiting your dentist regularly can also play a big part in uncovering deeper issues with overall health.
“I think the main highlights are that people think it’s just a check-up, it’s just a cleaning. It’s okay, my teeth don’t hurt. But with all of the research we have now there is such a huge link between oral health and infections and inflammation that can manifest in your mouth, but are related to heart health, diabetes, and pregnancy outcomes that people aren’t aware of and they just take it for granted.”
