The Vegreville and District Family and Community Support Services are gearing up for National Volunteer Week in April with a new campaign called Ignite Volunteerism. The goal of the campaign is to spark new connections between community members and the many local organizations that rely on volunteers to do their work.
Community Development Facilitator for the FCSS Elizabeth Koehler Lenko says that Ignite Volunteerism is all about shining a light on volunteer opportunities in a way that feels approachable, engaging, and fun. As part of the campaign, the FCSS is asking local non-profits to create a Tinder style “dating profile” for their organizations, but instead of looking for romance, these organizations are looking for volunteers.
Lenko goes on to say that volunteers truly are the lifeblood of our community.
“Honestly, our programs just wouldn’t exist. Without volunteers, there wouldn’t be programs like Meals on Wheels, the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program, even the Food Bank. We need people.”
She also mentions that the idea behind the campaign is that volunteering should feel like finding the right match. Not every opportunity fits every person, but there is something out there for everyone.
You can keep up to date on the new campaign and other activities slated for National Volunteer Week, happening from April 19th to the 25th, on the Vegreville and District FCSS Facebook page.
