Hockey fans in Alberta are being told to get ready as the province is set to host the 2028 World Cup of Hockey.
Calgary and Edmonton will co-host the event with Calgary’s new arena Scotia Place to host seven tournament games while the semi final games and championship will be held at Edmonton’s Rogers Place.
Premier Danielle Smith says Alberta’s passionate hockey fans helped secure the bid, adding the international event is expected to have a significant economic impact.
The province has committed 15 million dollars toward securing the tournament through a new provincial program that supports major event bids.
Meanwhile, the federal government has committed up to 8 million dollars through regional economic development funding that will support community programming and tourism linked to the tournament.
