Tuesday, Sept. 30 is Truth and Reconciliation Day across Canada. We take this day each year to honour all Indigenous peoples, and particularly the children and survivors of residential schools.
In the Lakeland region, Métis Crossing, an Indigenous cultural and historical centre located in Smoky Lake, will commemorate the day with a number of reflective activities scheduled, including stories from Elders and residential school survivors.
CEO of Métis Crossing Juanita Marois says that this day is really all about keeping conversation and understanding flowing between all Canadians, Indigenous and non-Indigenous alike.
Here in Vegreville, Truth and Reconciliation Day will be marked by various activities scheduled with the Kalyna Family Resource Network and the Vegreville Centennial Library, including Orange Shirt Day Crafts for children and a drum circle with local event group Awaken Events.
