Rural towns call on provincial government to address higher rural electricity distribution rates

The Town of St. Paul is backing a push by the City of Grande Prairie to address what they call unfair rural electricity distribution rates in Alberta.

Rural residents in ATCO service areas pay over $1,300 annually—more than triple the urban average—due to the higher cost of maintaining long power lines over large areas.

Councillor Nathan Taylor says all Albertans should pay the same rate, like a postage stamp.

Council approved a motion supporting the call for the province to take action on the growing cost disparity.
