Alberta Nurses’ Union says health care now more dangerous than mining or oil work

While transport truck drivers and equipment operators lead in workplace fatalities, nurses face the highest injury rates in Alberta, with over 13,000 injuries in the health and education sector in 2023.

Most were strains and sprains, especially among nurse aides. The nurses’ union says health care is now more dangerous than mining or oil work.

Meanwhile, oil and gas industry deaths have dropped 75% since 2002.

It’s all part of the focus during Safety and Health Week, running from May 5th to 10th.
