Portage College is launching new apprenticeship programs in carpentry and heavy equipment starting this August at its Lac La Biche campus. The goal is to help local students train close to home while meeting the growing demand for skilled trades in northeastern Alberta.Â
Students will get hands-on experience and classroom training in things like roof framing, engine systems, and equipment maintenance. Once finished, grads can find work in everything from home building to oil and gas. College officials say these new programs will boost the local workforce and support industries vital to the region’s economy.Â
