Alberta’s officials remain cautiously optimistic for a strong growing season in the Lakeland area

Alberta’s latest Water Supply Outlook shows normal to below normal soil moisture in the Lakeland area, with above-normal temperatures expected this spring.

While experts from LARA say conditions look better than last year, local variability remains high. Wetlands may still add moisture as they thaw, but winds are drying soils quickly.

Officials recommend long-term solutions like regenerative agriculture or switching to drought-tolerant crops.

With fuller dugouts and some rain in the forecast, officials remain cautiously optimistic for a strong growing season.
