Environment Canada has confirmed Alberta’s first tornado of the season touched down Sunday in the southern part of the province.
The weak twister briefly made contact with the ground in a rural area near Foremost, kicking up debris and causing minor damage to outbuildings, but thankfully no injuries were reported.
Officials are calling it an EF-0 tornado, the lowest on the Enhanced Fujita scale—but still a clear sign that severe weather season is ramping up early.
Albertans are being urged to review their emergency plans and keep an eye on alerts as conditions warm up across the Prairies.
