Town of Vegreville council will once again be supporting Lemonade Day this year.
At last week’s meeting, council approved a request from Community Futures Elk Island Region to waive the fees for the use of the Social Centre, to have council assist in the judging process, and to attend the wind-up event.
Mayor Tim MacPhee notes since it started here a few years ago in town, it has been one of their favorite on council to help support this Lemonade Day that Community Futures puts on in the Town of Vegreville and Mundare in this region. He says “Just to sit back and watch these young people understanding what a business licence is, putting a budget together, recipes, building their own lemonade stands, knowing they are going to be judged, getting permission from local land owners and stores that they can set up in front, and they have to go through a Lemonade University to understand the rules.”
Mayor MacPhee feels that young people today should all understand what it takes to run a business. He adds, the results of Lemonade Day are always fun to go and judge, he doesn’t think there is a member of council that doesn’t enjoy that day to the fullest. “When you have a good program put together its going to be successful and like I said Community Futures has done a very good job over the last few years. We have seen some the youth come back, bigger, and better than the year before. We have seen some the youth move on, but still remember what they’ve learnt in this program. I know that everybody in the community gets behind it because when we go out and judge we see line ups at all the stands and we see some people at two or three stands at different times during the day.”
Dates for the 2024 edition of Lemonade Day are still being confirmed by Community Futures. Once they are, however, Town of Vegreville administration will forward the calendar notices to council and advertise Lemonade Day on the Town’s website calendar. In 2023, Lemonade Day in Vegreville took place on June 17th.
